Elizabeth Harmetz, Vocal Awareness® Teacher
Elizabeth Harmetz integrates over 20 years of vocal study and performance. Her mission to teach singers a fundamentally flawless technique, enables students to bypass self-consciousness and insecurity and step into their role as Artist. Elizabeth Harmetz understands that the most sublime art comes from a technical foundation which allows for total freedom. She is a member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing and a graduate of the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, where she earned her MM in vocal performance. Her students have recorded albums, been cast in various lead and supporting roles, received first place awards in singing competitions, and enrolled at prestigious colleges.
Elizabeth Harmetz enjoys all aspects of vocal performance and has additional experience producing, directing and coaching. She has studied the human body as the foundation for beautiful free singing and brings a combined 15 years experience in the Alexander Technique, Vocal Awareness®, and Somato Respiratory Integration. Personally chosen by Arthur Samuel Joseph, MA, Elizabeth Harmetz is the Director of Certification and Education Programs for the Vocal Awareness® Institute and is certified to teach Vocal Awareness® an excellent complement to both Bel Canto and popular singing styles.
Elizabeth Harmetz maintains an active performing career. Her most recent opera roles include Mimi in La Boheme, Valencienne in The Merry Widow, and Susanna in Mozart's The Marriage of Figaro. Equally confident with Musical Theater, Elizabeth Harmetz has performed Kate in Kiss Me Kate, Sonia in Godspell, Eliza in My Fair Lady, and Laurey in Oklahoma! In Italy she sang the opera roles Despina from Mozart's Cosi fan tutte and Musetta from Puccini's La Boheme.
Elizabeth Harmetz knows that artistic depth is most often accompanied by life experience. She now returns to her native Los Angeles after exploring, teaching, and performing in many other parts of the country and world, including Italy, San Francisco, and Florida. In her Culver City Studio, Elizabeth Harmetz creates an environment of joy, play, and mastery, where true learning thrives.
